“It just shifts your perception a tiny little bit. Doesn’t make us invisible, just unnoticed. Oh, I know what it’s like! It’s like when you fancy someone and they don’t even know you exist. That’s what it’s like.”
- Doctor Who, The Sound of Drums
We love our cities but do we really see them? Modern, urban life can be a cacophonous, overwhelming, and dirty affair. How much of the city have we pushed down and out of our minds in order to live within it’s grid? How much of it’s wonderous, tiny details have we lost in the process?
This is a blog about those quiet details, forgotten stories, and half-remembered places of the built environment. Those elements that dance just on the edge of perception, filtered out and lost during the bustle of the day. I hope it makes you want to map sidewalk cracks, sketch the outlines of old signs, and climb trees to better photograph architectural details. If it does I win.
